At our General Meeting in October, Jim Sopha was applauded for his outstanding service to our Auxiliary. Jim has held many executive positions since he joined in 2001, has gained his 7,000 hour Service Pin and has been honoured with an Ontario Volunteer Service Award.
We are now so pleased to announce that Jim is now the recipient of Provincial Life Membership in Hospital Auxiliaries Association of Ontario (HAAO) at a recent meeting in Toronto.
Jim and his wife Elda have now moved away from Bancroft but have faithfully promised to visit us regularly. We look foward to it!
That's what we were celebrating at our 31st Annual Aniversary Dinner. The Rivers Edge Golf Club may not have seen such a wacky bunch of diners in a long time! True to our theme of The Beat Goes On (an old Sonny and Cher song) many of us dressed up in 60s and 70s costume! Sonny and Cher actually turned up (aka Presdient Debbie Speck and V-P Michael Brooks). A motley bunch we certainly were!
We had a splendid meal, catered by Bruce Kellar and his helpers, great music from Steve Wright and Ernie Demuth, and a lot of fun. The "serious" part of the evening was the presentation of awards by former President Dianne Martin and also by Sonny and Cher. The list of recipients was long and included a special presentation to Jim Sopha who was honoured with the Provincial Life Membership for many hours of devoted volunteering. Cheers for Jim! Our Auxiliary President Debbie Speck was honoured with a Certificate of Appreciation, as was Moose FM for its support throughout the Radiothon. The high point of the evening, however, was the presentation of $50,000 to Kim Bishop and Jean Menard who accepted on behalf of the hospital fund.
Let's all pat ourselves on the back for another year of successful fund-raising. Truly, The Beat Goes On!
Looking forward to another great fund-raising season in 2017!
This year seems to have whizzed by! Hard to believe that our fund-raising activities are three-quarters over and we are looking forward – and getting ready – for our Christmas activities. Last year our decorated Christmas trees were a great success and the whole campaign was a lot of fun. Soooo – we're going to do it again!
This year Home Hardware is kindly providing us with 18 trees and already several businesses in town are clamouring for the chance to be a decorator! More news as we progress!
North Hastings District Hospital Auxiliary has launched our 2016 campaign. To reflect our hospital’s need for the following cardiac related equipment all funds raised will go towards the purchase of a Heartstart MRX, Defibrillator and various other components.
Starting June 25 – July 3, Pepins No Frills will again be providing a venue for our barbecue and Rounding up all grocery purchases at the cash which will go to the Hospital.
The summer continues with the Moose FM Radiothon, August 12-13, barbecue and breakfast.
September brings back the Tim Horton’s Smile Cookie. From September 12 – 18 watch for the Auxiliary members’ smiling faces to accompany those cookies. Even if you don’t eat sweets, buy some for a friend and of course, donations are gladly accepted.
Rounding off the year will be the second Annual Festival of Trees, December 3 – 10. More trees, more variety, wine and cheese and entertainment!
New last year, and hot off the press for this season, Foodland raffle tickets are available while they last. Draw December 9th at the Wine and Cheese. Gift cards for Sobey’s, Foodland or Freshco, valued at $1000, $500, and $250 couldn't be more welcome at that time of year. Look out for us at Wheels, Water and Wings, New to You, the Corner Café or speak to an Auxiliary member.
Time to get your volunteering diary out and help fill all the spots to get the campaign up and running!
Given the rotten weather we have not been enjoying up to this point, we are hoping for better things and celebrating in advance of the daffodils! Wear something summery and come prepared for great food, great company and great fun. You can even bring your (grandchildren's) Teddy if you like!
