We’ve got something to SMILE about!

Smile Cookies 2014

We wish to thank Glen and Nancy Keating, and their wonderful staff for offering us the proceeds from the sale of Smile cookies from both of their locations again this year.  Thanks also to the TD and Scotia banks for supporting our cookie sales.

Cookie dollars plus donation box contributions resulted in a grand total of $8,150 to be put towards the purchase of portable patient monitors for our local North Hastings District Hospital.

Our heartfelt thanks go to the many members who made this project so successful.

Tim Hortons SMILE Cookies

The organizing group is getting ready for our SMILE event!

SMILE group

Tim Hortons' owner Glen Keating has generously offered to support our Stayin' Alive fundraiser this year with their Smile cookie campaign.  It runs from Sept. 15 to Sept. 21, and we need your help to make it a success.

We are looking for members to promote cookie sales at the door of both the Highway 28 and Hastings Street locations.  Shifts run from 8-10, 10-12 am and 2-4 pm.  There are also pre-order forms you can help by giving out.  We will have them available at the Sepember general meeting.

Last year’s campaign was extremely successful and we raised $6,178 to purchase wheelchairs for the hospital.  Glen hopes that we can make our goal $8,000 to put toward the purchase of portable patient monitors.

Please call Pat Hicks 613-332-1566 ( to schedule a shift for this extremely important event.

Helen Whitall

Helen joined the North Hastings Hospital Auxiliary in 1995 as a volunteer at the Opportunity Shop, the predecessor of the New To You. She quickly became involved in several fundraisers … Cookie Sales, Garden Tours and the Strawberry Tea … and was recognized for her efforts with a Special Recognition pin and an Outstanding Service Pin before 2000. By this time Helen, was supporting the Auxiliary as a member of the executive filling the roles of 1st and 2nd Vice-president and then President from 2000 –2002.

During her years with the Auxiliary, Helen was been a representative at many conferences, both regional and provincial, served on the Constitution and By-law committee, the Facility Committee, Books for Babies and served as the Publicity rep. She has chaired or worked on the Round-up, Fashion shows, Raffles and the Harvest Tea.

Since 2000, her fellow Auxilians have honoured her with a certificate of appreciation, a 5, 10 and 15 year pin, an Ontario Volunteer Service Award, local life membership and provincial life membership. This year Helen would have received her 20 year pin. Until earlier this year, Helen continued to contribute buying and distributing sundries to the patients of the hospital to make their stays more pleasant.

Helen has been a long-term, highly valued member of the North Hastings District Hospital Auxiliary. She will be very much missed by her fellow Auxilians, by the Hospital staff, by the patients of North Hastings Hospital and by the community of Bancroft and District.
